Run for Your Goodies with SPAR

Pretoria, Wednesday, 23rd August 2006 – The first 8 000 entrants to complete the SPAR Women’s 10 km Challenge on Saturday August 26 will receive a medal and a SPAR bag stuffed with a variety of goodies.

The goodie bag contains samples of a variety of enjoyable products which are sure to keep you going on race day.

The Challenge starts at 2.30 pm at the LC de Villiers sportsgrounds in Hatfield.

In addition to the 10km Challenge, there is also a five km Fun Run, and people who take part in the Fun Run are also eligible to receive medals and goodie bags.  Walkers are welcome, and are also eligible for medals and bags.

There are also some wonderful prizes, including a lucky prize of one year’s worth of groceries to the value of R12 000.  The Bring-a-Friend competition offers a prize of a midweek break for two at the luxurious Mount Grace Spa in the Magaliesberg, or SPAR vouchers worth R1 500.

There is also a prize of R 5 000 for the school with the highest number of entries.

Some of South Africa’s top runners, like Charne Rademeyer, Ronel Thomas and Poppy Mlambo are expected to take part in the Challenge.  Competition at the front is always hot, with the top runners going all out to stamp their authority on the race.

But the Challenge is all about the thousands of ordinary women who take part – fat, thin, old, young – women from all walks of life. It’s about having fun, and enjoying the companionship of other women in a race specifically for women.

All proceeds from the race go to Chrysalis, an organisation that helps young women who have been traumatised, with the aim of turning them from victors into survivors.

Entering the SPAR Women’s Challenge couldn’t be easier.  Entry forms are available from SUPERSPAR, SPAR and KWIKSPAR stores or online at   – call 011 203 5399 to locate the participating SPAR closest to you!
