Rwanda Make FIBA Women’s AfroBasket History

Hosts Rwanda have made a remarkable achievement, reaching the semi-finals of the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket for the first time ever.

This feat not only brings pride to the Rwandan team but also ensures their automatic qualification for the 2025 edition and a place in the Paris 2024 Pre-Olympics Qualifying Tournament.

Meanwhile, defending champions Nigeria continue their strong performance with a convincing win over Rwanda, setting up a thrilling final against Senegal.

Rwanda exceeded expectations, as this accomplishment is a testament to the team’s hard work and commitment.

In the semi-finals, Nigeria displayed their dominance and experience, overpowering hosts Rwanda with a 79-48 victory. Despite Rwanda leading briefly in the match, Nigeria quickly took control and never looked back. With their efficient play on both ends of the court, Nigeria secured a spot in the final for the fourth consecutive time. Their near-perfect performance throughout the tournament demonstrates why they are the defending champions and the team to beat.

In a hard-fought contest, Senegal emerged victorious over Mali with a 75-65 win, securing their place in the final. After a slow start to the tournament, the Senegalese team bounced back with a three-game winning streak. Overcoming earlier losses to Uganda and Mali, Senegal has showcased their resilience and determination. Their successful campaign has led them to a rematch of the 2017 and 2019 finals against Nigeria, setting the stage for an exciting showdown.

The upcoming final promises to be a thrilling match between two basketball powerhouses, Nigeria and Senegal. Both teams boast impressive records and have demonstrated their prowess throughout the tournament. Senegal will seek to dethrone the reigning champions, while Nigeria aims to secure a historic fourth consecutive AfroBasket title. The final is expected to be a display of skill, intensity, and determined basketball.
