It was a welcome return to the courts for the Spar South Africa Women’s Indoor Hockey team winning the indoor test series over Ireland in Dublin.

The series took place from Monday, 21 February to Friday, 25 February at Gormanston Park.

There were back-to-back matches, with the Irish team winning the first test 3-2.

However, the South Africans showed tenacity and fought back in the second test to level the series at 1-all.

In the third test, Kayla de Waal scored the only goal of the night. The Irish lasses did not make it easy for the visitors but SA held on for the win to go 2-1 up in the series.

It was all to play for in the fourth meet as Team SA dominated early and were ahead going into the halftime break. Elosie Walters’ goal sealed the victory on the night, handing the visitors the series victory with one test left to play.

The fifth and final test saw both teams come out fighting, but it was the fire within the SA camp which saw them win the final match and claim a 4-1 series win in Dublin.

The series saw youngsters shine in the absence of unavailable senior players – Tamlyn Kock and Nepo Serange were uncapped going into the series.
