Springbok Women’s Sevens Rugby fullback, Eloise Webb, reveals the team’s preparations for the much-anticipated Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament taking place from 9 September in Cape Town.
Webb, who is from East London in the Eastern Cape, holds junior national colours in cricket, javelin and also performed in the Varsity Sports netball competition.
In September, the NMU student will add the 2022 World Cup Sevens experience to her resumé as she has taken part in the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco and the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2018.
“Our preparations have been going well,” Webb said.
“We travelled to Hermanus, in the Western Cape last weekend to play club teams and just to play and gel as a team and that was a great preparation for us as a team.
“We have a young squad now, so we have a lot of new faces who are looking forward to play in the World Cup,” she added.
“We don’t get a lot of opportunities to play against the world best teams so, it’s really going to be good for us to work on our process and skills and everything. So, we are very excited to play on our home ground.”
When asked if she thought the team had what it takes to actually going all the way and win the trophy Webb said: “It’s not about the result but more of the process.
“We have a lot to work on. We just want to get to a level where we compete against the world’s best, its quite difficult for us as a team because we don’t play against them as much as we want to.
“Although it’s difficult, we have processes that we are working on and goals that we need to achieve as a team,” she concluded.
