The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) has approached Empowerdex to identify tools to measure progress and stages of transformation in sport.
SASCOC, which was formed with the main objective of promoting and developing high performance sport in South Africa, has also engaged with the National Coordinating Committee for Schools Sport (NACOC) and together are in the process of developing a blueprint for school sports development in South Africa.
This information has been made public after SASCOC’s annual general meeting at Olympic House on Saturday 18 August 2007.
SASCOC has confirmed its also in the process of finalising a corporate governance charter for sports in South Africa.
The Governance Charter will ensure that sporting bodies will be held to the highest standards of accountability, thus building confidence amongst sponsors and other stakeholders in sport.
The meeting also focused on report backs from the COSANOC Games, which were held in Lesotho in April earlier this year, where South Africa took first position, and the recent 9th All Africa Games.
The 9th All Africa Games, which took place in Algiers, was a mammoth event, with more than 9000 athletes from 52 countries participating in 29 different sporting events.
Although facing a number of challenges, SASCOC has commended Team South Africa for their performance at the 9th All Africa Games where they took third position winning 61 gold medals, 67 silver and 53 bronze, bringing home a total of 181 medals.
SASCOC is currently in the midst of preparations for the SA Games which will be held in Bloemfontein from the 24th to 28thth September 2007. The SA Games will see athletes from all nine provinces competing in thirteen different sporting codes.
An audio-visual presentation was also made detailing Beijing’s preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games which take place less than a year from now.
