Tarryn Chudleigh (Kommetjie) and Chantelle Rautenbach dominated the girls U20 Pro Junior set on the second day of Billabong Junior Series event, in absolutely ideal conditions at Big Bay, Bloubergstrand.

The top two seeds topped their opening heats in the Pro Junior girls, where the elimination of 13 year-old third seed Sarah Baum (Athlone Park, KZN) was the biggest upset result of the day.

The perfect conditions that saw the entire Cape Peninsula bathed in warm sunshine and cloudless skies was the classic calm before the storm scenario with the local weather office issuing a ‘Severe Weather Warning’ for the rest of the weekend.

Winds from the NW are predicted to reach gale-force (over 60 kms) with more than 50 mm of rain, swell exceeding five metres (approx 15 foot) and snow on higher ground on Saturday.

The event is scheduled to end on Sunday when wave prediction models show waves of nearly seven metres and winds of 50 kms from the South but clearing skies and maximum temperature of 11 degrees Celsius. Only a surfer knows the feeling.

The Billabong Junior Series is sanctioned by Surfing South Africa (SSA), the national controlling body for the sport in this country, and proudly supported by First National Bank, Palmers, Kustom, Von Zipper, Red Bull and Silver Bullet Productions.
