Storm Surf Postpones Surf Series

  The first event in the Lizzard Tag Series, which was scheduled to take place at the Strand in the Western Cape this Saturday and Sunday (July 28& 29), has been called off due to the wild weather and storm surf, which has hit the Cape Peninsula this week.

    Capetonians were in good form on day three of the Billabong Junior Series at Big Bay in Bloubergstrand, with Durbanite and fourth seed in the Pro Junior Girls Heidi Palmboom the only visiting girl to prevent a complete whitewash by the local contingent.

  The men’s events of the third of R220 000 Billabong Junior Series got underway in excellent one to 1.6 metre (3-5 foot) waves at the Big Bay, Bloubergstrand on Thursday, with light variable winds producing conditions described as the best this year for the country’s top 20 year-old and younger surf stars.

Clark Scoops Final Billabong Event

Heather Clark made a triumphant return to SA surfing when she scored a narrow but deserved win in the Open division of the fourth and final Billabong ‘Girls Get Out There’ Surf Series event which finished in wind affected one metre waves at Tableview in Cape Town on Sunday.

Kahuna comes to Kommetjie

Kommetjie, the epicentre of surfing on the Cape Peninsula, will be the venue for the third- and final event of the 2006 Kahuna Surf Series, where the top up-and-coming young guns of Western Province surfing will be crowned this weekend.  

Kahuna Kicks Off

A Great White shark cruising close inshore interrupted the first day’s proceedings at the Kahuna Surf Series contest for novice surfers at Muizenberg Corner in Cape Town on Saturday, forcing the organisers to halt the event temporarily until the shark moved off.
