Nicole van Wyk, Mischka Laubscher and Kiara Fegen win gold in their respective divisions to guide South Africa to the 2022 International Mixed Martial Arts Federation Africa Championship title at the EFC Performance Institute in Johannesburg on Saturday, 30 April.
The ladies showed dominance as they won seven of the nine medals that were on offer at the prestigious continental showpiece.
Van Wyk was crowned as the Flyweight 56.7 kg champion after she recorded a TKO against her teammate, Bianca Stander. While another South African, Nadia Terblanche had to share her bronze medal with Angola’s Esperanca Pereira.
A clinical Laubscher claimed the Bantamweight gold medal with a quick submission over Moneza Neves of Angola. Laubscher’s counterpart Carissa Botha settled for the bronze medal as the South Africans dominated the podium.
And, Fegen proved to be too good for Londiwe Hadebe after she recorded a straight victory to emerge as the champion of the Leightweight 70.3 kg.
