The final straight to the Paris Olympics began in earnest for the SA Women’s Hockey team opening up an early 2-0 lead against world #21 France in the six-match Test Series, with the third test on Monday evening in Cape Town.

The series marks the first time that South Africa and France have met in a test match. Erin Christie earned her 100th test cap for the country, whilst Charlene Boshoff and Reabetswe Phume were awarded their first test cap for the country in the opening game on Wednesday 18 January 2024. South Africa beat France 2-0 in a hard-fought thrilling encounter.

In the second match of the test series played at SACS, in the Western Cape on Saturday 20 January, South Africa found the perfect start when a penalty corner variation saw youngster Charlene Boshoff fire home to give the host the lead and award her, her first international goal for the country.

France was relentless in their pursuit of a breakthrough with numerous penalty corners but failed to convert it into a goal, as the home team lead 1-0 at half time.

France finally levelled the score in the fourth quarter courtesy of Albane Garot who scored from a penalty corner. South Africa was not giving up that easily and were stirred into action but with some good defence from the French, they were denied numerous opportunities.

South Africa’s Celia Seerane fed Antonet Louw a beautiful pass that saw Louw strike home the winning goal in the final three minutes, gifting the hosts a two-nil victory and a series lead 2-0 with four matches remaining.

All games are live on SuperSport Schools website and app.
