Six Momentum Proteas stars and #gsport16 Woman in Social Media winner, Lesego Pooe, are proudly flying the South African flag at the first-ever FairBreak Invitational in Dubai.
The competition, which is currently underway at the Dubai International Stadium, is the first privately funded women’s cricket tournament featuring the world’s leading cricketers.
Speaking on the national team players’ involvement in the event, Cricket South Africa CEO Pholetsi Moseki said: “Another sign that South African women’s cricket is a force to be reckoned with.
“Although they will be playing for different teams these players are proud ambassadors of South African cricket wherever they go in the world, and we are certain they will make us proud on and off the field.”
Momentum Proteas’ 2022 Cricket World Cup captain, Suné Luus is stepping out for the Tornadoes, while South Africa’s leading wicket-taker and run-scorer in New Zealand, Shabnim Ismail and Laura Wolvaardt are representing the Sapphires and Barmy Army, respectively.
The Falcons have all-rounder, Marizanne Kapp, with seam bowler, Ayabonga Khaka and stalwart Mignon du Preez donning the colours of the Spirit and the Warriors.
In the broadcasting space, Pooe will be satisfied with her progress after previously expressing her desire to continue breaking barriers in cricket.
“So much more. I have not even begun to touch even the tip of the iceberg. There’s so much in store for me. I just need to continue putting in the hours, learning, growing, expanding and the sky is not the limit for me as a cricket broadcaster but only the beginning.”
