South Korea’s Hyo Joo Kim closed off with a 2-under 69 to win the Ascendant LPGA, marking her sixth career title at the Old American Golf Club, and her first win of the season achieved at the Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas, on Sunday, 8 October, 2023.
Bianca Pagdanganan, the big hitter from the Philippines, closed with a 65 to tie for second alongside Atthaya Thitikul of Thailand, who also shot a 65.
Before she tests her game on the PGA Tour in Las Vegas next week, Lexi Thompson could only manage a 70 in her final round on the LPGA Tour. She finished six shots behind in fifth place.
Kim first earned an LPGA Tour card when she won the Evian Championship for her only major. This was her sixth career LPGA victory, to go along with 14 titles on the Korean LPGA. She now has won three straight seasons on the LPGA.
This achievement marked her first win in one year and six months since her last victory at the Lotte Championship, last April. Additionally, her earnings of $270,000 (R5,216,786.10) from this win propelled her total season prize money beyond $2 million for the first time since her debut on the LPGA Tour.
Since her victory at the Lotte Championship, Kim secured third place on three occasions last year. She consistently performed well, achieving top-10 finishes in eight of the 16 events she participated in this year.
She finally quenched her long-standing thirst on Monday with her first wire-to-wire win since her debut.
Kim now shifts focus and returns to Korea to compete in the upcoming LPGA Tour BMW Ladies Championship, scheduled to take place at Seowon Hills Golf Club in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, starting from the 19th of October.
