SPAR and Bokomo in 10km Run

Did you forget to enter the SPAR Women’s 10 km Challenge with Bokomo at Old Parktonians on Sunday October 15?

Relax – all is not lost! Pre-entries closed last week, but you can still enter and register at the same time.

Registration is at Old Parktonians on Thursday October 12 and Friday October 13 from 12 to 3.30pm, or on Saturday from 10 in the morning until four in the afternoon.

And you can even enter on the morning of the race, with registration opening at 6am.

So there really is no excuse for not getting out there and joining in this really great event.

Race coordinator Ian Laxton has described the route as ‘pretty and interesting’. “The 10km route is quite demanding,” he said.

“There are quite a few hills, and among the top runners, it will really suit the stronger ones.  But the average runner will also enjoy it.  The can walk (and talk) up the hills, and for every uphill, there is always a nice downhill.

"The route winds through the suburbs of Hurlingham and Randburg, and is really pretty,” said Laxton. “The gardens are looking lovely, and there’ll be lots to look at.

“The 5km route is also quite hilly, and it has lots of twists and turns.  It doesn’t go far from the venue, and once again, it provides an opportunity for the runners and walkers to admire the suburban gardens, which are looking at their very best.”

The entry fee for both races is R25, but unlicensed runners taking part in the 10km race need a temporary license, which costs R15.

A portion of every entry fee is going to the Challenge’s designated charity, which is breast cancer awareness.

See you at Old Parks next Sunday!
