Four months after the end the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup that was held in Liverpool, South Africa will face England in the SPAR Challenge which will be a three-match series, that will be played late November in Cape Town.
The two teams met each other twice in Liverpool and both finished third and fourth, respectively. South Africa who finished fourth will go head to head against the Roses at the Velodrome in Cape Town from the 29th November until the 1st of December 2019.
This will be the first time that the two sides meet following their battle for bronze at the Vitality Netball World Cup in July, which saw the Vitality Roses come out on top and secure a place on the podium.
“We are excited to be hosting England in November and cannot wait for the clash. Both teams have really gone through a transition phase and we both are building for the future. We obviously don’t want to allow them to beat us on our own turf and have a home crowd advantage this time. This will definitely be an important few games for us as we are looking forward to the repeat of our last World Cup match against England,” said Netball South Africa Cecilia Molokwane.
Both teams are going through a new dawn as the coaches that were at the helm during the Netball World Cup have both stepped down and new ones taking over. For the SPAR Proteas this will be their chance to revenge the two losses they endured at the hands of the Roses at the World Cup.
“I am very much looking forward to this series against South Africa, it’s definitely going to be an exciting few games to watch. The SPAR Proteas are a good team and proved that at the Vitality Netball World Cup. I’m sure they’ll be looking forward to a re-match against the Roses so it’s definitely going to be one to watch,” said Jess Thirlby, Head Coach of the Vitality Roses
Mike Prentice, SPAR Group Marketing Executive said that it was exciting that the SPAR Proteas would be in action on home soil in Cape Town end of November.
“There was such a hype around the excellent run of the SPAR Proteas in Liverpool at the Netball World Cup in July and all of South Africa are looking forward to see our girls in action on home soil. England will no doubt be fierce competition and the three test SPAR Challenge is a must for all netball and sporting fans.”
