Jakkie Cilliers, the adept kicker for the Springbok Women’s team, showcased nerves of steel as she sealed victory for South Africa with a crucial kick against Spain at Valladolid on Saturday, 22 March, 2024.
Reflecting on her pivotal role, Cilliers, who was entrusted with the kicking duties due to Libbie Janse van Rensburg’s injury, emphasised her adherence to a routine advised by former Springbok flyhalf Louis Koen.

Despite being born in England and studying in the USA, she felt a deep sense of belonging representing South Africa. Her focus remained on executing her role in the team, ensuring she contributed positively to the game’s outcome.
Tchogna-Njamen, a Johannesburg native, relished the challenge posed by Spain and celebrated the team’s resilience in securing victory. Acknowledging her performance, she remained grounded, focusing on continuous improvement as advocated by Coach Louis.
As the Springbok Women celebrate their ascent to the 12th spot in the World Rugby rankings, they prepare to face the USA, currently ranked ninth.
