Another game and it was another win for Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, this time they secured a 7-0 win over Thunderbirds FC in the Hollywoodbets Super League at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday, 26 November 2023.

As the scoreline shows, the Pretoria-based side were nothing short of sublime in their victory over the team from Butterworth. Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ Andisiwe Mgcoyi got the scoring going when she got the first goal of the game shortly after the match started.

Lerato Kgasago doubled the lead in the 17th minute, and then Mgcoyi scored two more goals to sealed her hat-trick, giving Banyana Ba Style a 4-0 lead at half time.

Miche Minnies was brought on in the second half to replace Refilwe Tholakele and the substitute’s impact was almost immediate as she got on the scoresheet in the 57th minute. It was again Mgcoyi who took the score to 6-0 as Minnies bagged her brace to seal a solid win for her side.

Jerry Tshabalala’s team must win their remaining matches if they want to leapfrog UWC to move to the top of the table.

The University of Western Cape FC are not making things easier for Sundowns Ladies, securing a 3-1 win over Durban Ladies. A brace by Fiona Ndlovu and a goal from Amogelang Motau sealed the three precious points for their team who are looking to hold on to top spot.

An Icon Steps Down in Iconic Fashion

Back up to Gauteng, it was an emotional day for JVW FC’s founder and star Janine van Wyk who played her final club game. Van Wyk has been the face of women’s soccer for many years and has been a true servant of the game on and off the field. Her team were able to come from behind to beat University of Johannesburg 2-1 and give their ‘diamond’ a stellar send off.

This might not be the last time we see Van Wyk in action as she was named in Banyana Banyana’s squad for their upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Burkina Faso. She is also chasing a record of becoming the most capped male or female soccer player on the continent.

In other results, Coal City Wizards got the better of City Lads FC Ladies, 4-2, while TS Galaxy Queens played host in a 1-1 draw against Copperbelt Ladies FC.

TUT FC sealed a solid 4-0 home win over Ma-Indies Ladies, while Royal AM were too good for Richmond Ladies in their 3-1 victory, and the University of Pretoria held on for a 1-0 win over First Touch Academy in the only game on Saturday.
