Syan du Preez and Caleigh Anders claimed gold in a series of medal finishes for South Africa at the Artistic African Gymnastics Championships in Marrakesh from Friday, 3 May to Monday, 6 May, 2024.
The visual experience of twists, thrills, grace, and talent on display in did nothing to dispel the tough competition Team SA faced at every flip and twist count, fighting hard for top three podium finishes across individual and team competitions.
South Africa’s junior team consisting of Syan du Preez, Lily Hayes, Keira Sawry and Jessica Rautenbach claimed the silver medal finish in the Junior Women’s Artistic Team event.
In addition to Du Preez claiming gold medal and the title of African Champion for her floor routine in the junior apparatus final, the talent also claimed an over-all silver medal when she finished second on the vault and bar finals, and finished third on the beam in the individual all-round event.
Caleigh Anders led from the front in the senior women’s individual competition when she claimed African Champs title on the vault, and fellow team mates Naveen Daries claimed silver medal for her balance beam routine, whilst Zelme Daries went on to claim the bronze medal on the bar.
South Africa’s Senior Women’s team made up of Caleigh Anders, Zelme Daries, Karma Visagie, Shante Koti and Naveen Daries claimed silver medal in the team competition to finish off an impressive 18th African Artistic Championship campaign by Team South Africa.
