Kalmer Defends Half-Marathon Title
Less than 24 hours after winning the Pretoria leg of the SPAR 10km Challenge, René Kalmer successfully defended her SA Half Marathon Championships title in Cape Town on Sunday, while her sister Christine grabbed second spot, ahead of Nolene Conrad in third place.

African Javelin champ Sunette Viljoen finishes 11th Samsung Diamong League in 3rd position behind Olympic gold medallist, Czech Barbora Spotakova, and Russia’s Mariya Abakumova, and will take on her familiar rivals again on Sunday at the 12th leg of the Samsung Diamond league in Birmingham.

All eyes will be on Natalie du Toit, winner of five gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, as Team South Africa arrive in London for the 2012 Paralympic Games. The South African team of 62 includes 19 women athletes, including two more medal winners from 2008, athlete Ilse Hayes and swimmer Shireen Sapiro.
