Tenille Swartz’s giant killing run in the Grays Oslo Open Squash Championships came to an end in the semi-finals, when fourth-seeded Tegwen Malik of Wales edged her out 9-7 in the deciding game.
Unseeded Tenille Swartz of South Africa had continued her winning way in the quarterfinals of the Grays Oslo Open, when she defeated Elise Ng (Hong Kong) 9-6 9-7 5-9 9-6 to meet fourth-seeded Tegwen Malik (Wales) for a place in the finals.
Swartz raced through the first two games 9-3 9-3 but Malik (ranked 24 in the world) showed her experience to level matters by winning the next two games. Swartz, a qualifier, who had ousted second seed Annelize Naude (Ned) in the first round, was unable to gain the upper hand in the fifth.
The 19 year old South African, now based in the Netherlands, is the biggest mover in recent times on the December WISPA rankings, having jumped 77 places from 134 to 57.
