South Africa’s national Under-20 team are currently competing in the All Africa Games tournament in Morocco where the side suffered an early setback in their opening match against Nigeria. Basetsana’s coach Simphiwe Dludlu believes that her young ladies will bounce back when they face Cameroon in their next encounter.
Basetsana were handed a 3-0 beating in their Group B match against the Nigerians at Stade des Chenes, where they had arrived a day before their match had been scheduled to take place after traveling for 36 hours.
“I think our girls not having enough sleep, approximately not more than five hours leading to this match, played a part in us not doing well in our first group match,” Dludlu told SAFA media after the game.
“We had a few decent chances we created in this tie, however, could not capitalise on them because the team was just not sharp on the ball on the day.
“We played against a solid side,” she added.
“Our goal is to push for a positive result.” – Basetsana coach, Simphiwe Dludlu
Despite the loss, the coach is adamant that the team will pick themselves up as they prepare to face Cameroon in their last Group B fixture on 24 August, 2019, as Zambia, who they were supposed to play against in their second match of the tournament failed to show up for this year’s All Africa Games.
“The ambition is always wanting to do well in every tournament we participate in,” Dludlu said.
“We play Cameroon in our next group match and our goal is to push for a positive result there,” she ended.
