The South African women’s side has moved closer to a tournament win after they defeated hosts Zimbabwe 5-0 in their African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games clash in Bulawayo on Sunday.
The South Africans now head the women’s competition with six points after winning both their first two games, and can clinch the title with a point in their final pool match against Namibia on Tuesday.
Mosili Makhoali netted a hat-trick to take her to the top of the goal-scorers charts in the competition, after she also found the back of the net in South Africa’s 3-1 win over Botswana in their opening game.
Linda Sepotokele and Gabriella Salgado were the two scorers against Zimbabwe, who could not muster a shot on target in the contest.
The match between Namibia and Botswana, which was scheduled to be played on Sunday, has been shifted to Monday.
Zimbabwe remain in second place in the pool with three points from their opening win over Namibia, and could take silver with a win over Botswana on Tuesday.
