University of Western Cape produced a game that is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Hollywoodbets Super League weekend as they stopped an in-form Royal AM Ladies side in their tracks with a 6-2 drubbing in Bellville in Week 16, ending on Sunday, 16 June, 2024.
Philisa Mjambane showed early on in the 5th minute that “goals-galore” was the order of the day. She opened the scoring and scored another in the 70th minute. Sibulele Holweni was also on song, securing two goals (15’ and 38’), with Noxolo Cesane and Tiffany Kortjie adding a goal apiece to all but seal the sweet victory.
The visitors pulled two goals back from Nomvuyo Bhengu and Reitumetse Chabana to ease the pain from the heavy defeat.

Fellow students that were also sensational was University of Pretoria with Isabella Ludwig securing a brace during the 5-1 victory against Thunderbirds Ladies at University of Pretoria Stadium, that moves them three places up on the log standings, to 5th place.
Thunderbirds continue to struggle and linger at the bottom of the table, and are yet to register a win this season.

Following a 1-1 draw versus TUT Matsatsantsa FC last week, defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies ran riot in Durban defeating Durban Ladies 5-1 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday.

Nthabiseng Majiya netted two goals that take her to the summit of the HBSL Top Goal Scorer List with 9 goals this season. Kholosa Biyana, Refilwe Tholakele and Andisiwe Mgcoyi also contributed to the spectacular come back.
As seen on the Sundowns website Nonhlanhla Mthandi praised the team for a dominant performance after drawing the last game: “Everyone understood the assignment today and the need to bring our A-game because of the unexpected result we had last time out.
“The opposition was quite energetic and even equalized, but we kept our composure and executed our game plan effectively. The team showed great resilience and teamwork, which ultimately led to our victory. I am very happy with our level of performance today, and we are ready for the next one.”
Sundowns Ladies will now gear up for a home clash against the University of Fort Hare, on Saturday, 22 June, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 13:00.
University of Johannesburg and TS Galaxy Queens shared the spoils in a result that slightly increased the points difference to two between UJ and Sundowns at the top of the standings.
Another Durban side that continues to struggle is Lindelani Ladies, they lost on the road 1-0 to First Touch FC Ladies. They’ve lost 12 out of 14 games, 1 draw and 1 win. They will have to dig even deeper if they are to start competing in this league and not flirt with relegation in just their first season in the elite league.
They host a strong opponent next weekend in JVW FC at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium. JVW will be looking to secure maximum points after a 1-1 draw with University of Fort Hare during this past weekend’s round of fixtures.
