Seasoned media all-rounder and 2020 Momentum gsport Awards host, Kea Motlokwa, has joined the gsport Newsroom for the duration of the #gsport16 campaign.

Motlokwa, who has strong experience across the media landscape, will join a formidable team already churning out red hot content.

Speaking about her appointment to the gsport Newsroom, Motlokwa said: “Being a part of the gsport team is a dream come true for me, it is a manifestation of the biggest picture I have always wanted to play in elevating women in sport, from being a finalist in 2016, a host in 2020 and now being part of the team that works on changing the narrative of women in sport is something that dreams are made of.

“I am so happy to also be afforded this opportunity in a time where so many brands are backing sportswomanship, this means that we can go over and above in our quest to put woman in sport on a pedestal.”

Content Lead for the gsport Newsroom, Celine Abrahams, welcomed Motlokwa, saying: “We focus on positive story-telling to raise the profile of women’s sport. Kea is a seasoned media professional, and her expertise will boost our effort to shine the spotlight on our stars.”

The South African Media Innovation Program has supported gsport in the growth of the newsroom since 2018 and has helped the initiative blood new writing talent, including vacation reporters and interns.

Two of those interns, Babalwa Kutwana and Nonto Nothana, have impressed the team and are now staying on to power the #gsport16 campaign.

Speaking about her time with gsport, Kutwana, said: “My time at gsport has been nothing short of amazing. It has paved the way for my sports broadcasting career, given me a newfound confidence in my myself and my craft.

“The best part is actually enjoying and loving what I do. I have never said that about a workplace before, lol! I have gained invaluable experience that I will carry throughout my journey.”

Nothana is also excited about the opportunity she has been given to improve her media skills: “Being part of gsport has helped me not to focus only on a sporting code that I love but love and understand other sporting codes. Because of gsport, I am now super obsessed with seeing other women in sports win in different categories.

“I have improved as a writer and a researcher. All because of working with a supportive, dedicated and hardworking team like gsport, a platform that priorities women’s sport!”

gsport Founder, Kass Naidoo, said: “It is heartening to see how gsport has grown over 15 years and we are grateful to SAMIP, Brand South Africa and Momentum for helping us grow the gsport Newsroom, as we grow our coverage through Africa.”

“Well done to Celine for how she has led the way and encouraged excellence among this dedicated team, who work tirelessly to ensure that the newsroom is buzzing 24/7.”

The gsport Newsroom runs a thriving website, powered by Momentum, with extensive activation of content across social media @gsport4girls.
