TuksSport High School learner, Viwe Jingqi, broke the South African U18 100m record three times in less than seven hours at the South African Junior and Youth Athletics Championships in Potchefstroom on Thursday, 31 March 2022.
The 17-year-old ran 11.40 during the heats, 11.36 in the semi-final and kept her best for last in the final when she clocked 11.24.
Jingqi is currently the fastest U18 women 100m sprinter in the world – only seven senior athletes have set faster times so far this season.
Her time of 11.24 is also a new South African junior record.
In February at the Twizza Super Schools Meeting in Ruimsig, Jingqi broke the national record for the first time when she ran 11.47, which was the fastest time by a South African U18 athlete in over 38 years.
