In yet another dramatic weekend of T20 action, Western Province beat DP World Lions by three runs, in the CSA Professional Domestic Women’s League on Sunday 5 November at the UJ Orban Oval in Johannesburg.
DP World Host Western Province
Western Province was put in to bat first after losing the toss. Faye Tunnicliffe rapidly put runs on the board as she reached her half century 50 (36) with nine fours before she was sent back to the dugout. Kelsey Adams put on 29 (36) with two fours as WP reached 134/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Samantha Schutte 3/29 and Relebohile Mkhize 2/13 were the pick of the Lions bowlers as they restricted their visitors that also included two run-outs in the innings.
Lions set about a tight run chase with all urgency, Madison Landsman 31 (31) with three fours and one maximum, backed by Sunette Viljoen-Louw 39 (38) with six fours, and Nonkululeko Thabethe 28 (24) with three fours, but it was not be for hosts, as Samantha Schutte was bowled off the last ball of the innings and that was mere heart break as Western Province snatched victory by a mere 3 runs.
Leah Jones 2/19 and Saarah Smith 2/21, were the pick of the WP Bowlers.
Fidelity Titans Host the Hollywoodbets Dolphins
Fidelity Titans secured a comfortable five-wicket victory against the Hollywoodbets Dolphins at SuperSport Park in Centurion. Batting first after losing the toss, an unbeaten half century from Nondumiso Shangase 57* (50) with eight fours and a contribution from Courtney Gounden, with 42 (38) with seven fours, the Dolphins reached a defendable sore of 140/4 in their allotted overs.
The Daisy Ladies paced their run chase in a comfortable fashion as they ticked away at the scoreboard. Anneke Bosch 30 (22) two fours and two sixes, with contributions from Tebogo Macheke 48 (30) with six fours and one maximum and Eliz-Mari Marx 22 (27) with one four set up the run chase nicely for the lower order batting line up.
An unbeaten stance from Masabata Klaas 20* (16) with three fours saw the home team cruise over the finish line with 4 balls to spare.
Eastern Province Prevails over Eastern Cape Linyathi in Division 2’s Eastern Cape Derby
In the final and only match of the day in Division 2 which is deemed the Eastern Cape Derby at Buffalo Park in East London, Eastern Province beat Eastern Cape Linyathi by seven wickets.
Winning the toss, EC Linyathi chose to bat first. Genevieve Fritz fell three runs short of a half century with a contribution of 47 (49) with five fours, she was supported by Caighley Wanckel 21 (26) with four fours as EC Linyathi reached a score of 95/5 in their 20 overs. Jordan Cole 2/25 was the pick of the EP bowlers on the day.
EP top order batting line up made quick work of the run chase as Aluncedo Dunga was unbeaten on 39* (45) five fours and one maximum, and she was backed by Amber Botha 12 (24) with one four and Jana Nell 15 (14) with one four and one six as the visitors reached 98/3 in the 17th over and awarding themselves a seven wicket victory for the weekend double over their hosts.
