In a triumphant and inspiring journey, South African wheelchair basketball player Samkelisiwe Mbatha is set to represent her nation on the international stage in Thailand. 

At the age of 22, hailing from Ndwedwe, she has transitioned to the world of wheelchair tennis, a remarkable journey that began with her playing netball during her primary school years before her life took a different path due to her disability.

Navigating through her personal trials and the numerous obstacles she encounters, Mbatha maintains a strong sense of determination and optimism, firmly believing that she is reaching for the stars in her pursuit of success.

With her remarkable talent and unwavering determination, Mbatha is not only chasing her own dreams but also breaking barriers for athletes with disabilities.

Mbatha’s journey in wheelchair basketball began in local leagues, where her exceptional skills and determination caught the attention of scouts. Her hard work led to selection for the South African national wheelchair basketball team. 

Her journey to the top has been filled with countless hours of practice, rigorous training, and overcoming physical challenges. Now, her dedication has paid off as she prepares to compete in Thailand, donning the South African colours with pride.
