SuperSport School Sports Star of the Year, Miyanda Maseti, will use her cash prize from the 2021 Momentum gsport Awards to save for her BMX World Cup series in 2022.

Speaking to gsport after receiving her award, Maseti said: “This award means so much to me because it means that all my hard work has paid off and it showed me that all of my efforts were recognized.

“Also seeing all the accomplished people at the awards made me so much more motivated to get better and work harder to get where they are. Thank you so much for this award it means so much to me!!” she added.

“I want to put my prize money into the bank and save it for next year so I can go to world cups because next year is a big year for me.”

The announcement of prize money was made by founder of the gsport Trust, Kass Naidoo, in 2019 at the 14th edition of the country’s longest running women’s sport Awards when she told the audience that it was time to put money into the pockets of winners. Since then, winners have been able to invest in their careers.

Volunteer of the Year, Sandile Lukhele, who uses his own finances to uplift cricket in the regions of Piet Retief and Pongola, was thrilled to find out about the prize money which he will use to pay off his student fees.

“Wow! no words can express how I feel right now! I didn’t expect this, I am really grateful and thankful to Momentum and gsport.

“It will help me finish my outstanding student fees and those of my wife!”

#gsport16 Estée Lauder Style Star of the Year, Akhona Makalima, is looking forward to sharing her prize money with the Ikhayalethemba centre.

“For me getting a prize money along with the awards is deeply satisfying. It simply shows encouragement, appreciation, celebration and it appraises one’s performance and their hard work.

“I’d share this with my Charity family at IKHAYALETHEMBA. I’m helping my community to rebuild Ikhayalethemba centre for the disabled, that was vandalised during lockdown,” she concluded.
