Five Gauteng-based athletes have been selected for the SA Women’s 8km team which will represent South Africa at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Southern Region Cross Country Championships.
This has been confirmed by Athletics South Africa, who today announced the final South African team for the competition in which up two twelve Southern Region African countries will take part.
The SA athletes were selected based on their performance achieved at the SA Cross Country Championships in Witbank, Mpumalanga in September 2006.
The final team is as follows:- The SA Women’s 8km team is made up of Ronel Thomas (Gauteng), Lebogang Phalula (Gauteng), Louisa Leballo (Gauteng) Lebo Phalula (Gauteng) and Violet Raseboya (Gauteng).
Two junior teams will also be represented.
They are, in the girls 4km event, Praxedis Dim (Gauteng), Suliswa Fudumele (Eastern Cape), Lena Lotter (Western Cape), Alita Phiri (North West), Patience Khumalo (Gauteng), Selina Mofokeng (Gauteng), Yvonne Aphane (Limpopo), Jane Tuge (North West) and Helen Phenyane (Limpopo).
The area championships take place on 24 February in Malawi.
