Ashleigh Moolman raced to the finish line to become the first ever UCI Cycling Esports World Champion on Wednesday, 09 December 2020.

Moolman celebrated her birthday in spectacular fashion winning gold ahead of Australia’s Sarah Gigante and Sweden’s Cecilia Hansen.

According to a post on velonews.com, Moolman revealed, “It was really awesome.”

“I wasn’t a fan of virtual training before the [COVID-19] lockdown, and now to win the virtual world champion’s jersey — I’m really proud.” – first ever UCI Cycling eSports World Champion, Ashleigh Moolman

Going into the race, Moolman was one of the favourites to win as she has won multiple races against veterans of virtual cycling since her jump to elite Zwift racing earlier this year.

As the first ever UCI World eSports champion, Moolman will wear a rainbow jersey during all virtual game play.
