Jayde Symons, a talented 19-year-old sportswoman from South Africa, has been given the extraordinary opportunity to represent her country in the upcoming FIT Junior Touch Rugby World Cup. With immense excitement and determination, she is reaching out to the public, seeking support to make her dream come true.

Hailing from a rugby-loving household, Symons was immersed in the world of sports from an early age. Her family’s passion for the game fueled her own love for rugby. Throughout her school years, she eagerly participated in various sports, embracing every chance to be involved.

It was during grade 7 that Symons was introduced to touch rugby, a pivotal moment that ignited a fire within her. She started playing in grade 8 and quickly realized the game’s potential. Participating in provincial trials organized by the Easterns Touch Association opened her eyes to the level of skill and competition in touch rugby. Over the past seven years, she has grown as a player, representing multiple provincial teams in senior and junior inter-provincial tournaments. Captaining her team to victory in 2017 and 2022, where they clinched the gold medal, has been a highlight of her journey thus far.

Ever since witnessing the South African junior team train in 2017, Symons has dreamt of representing her country in the FIT Junior Touch Rugby World Cup. After enduring rigorous trials and making it through the selection process, her dream is now within reach. However, participating in international tournaments comes with significant financial challenges, as the tours are self-funded.

To make her dream a reality, Symons is humbly appealing for support from the public. She hopes to raise funds to cover the expenses associated with the tournament and enable her to proudly represent her family, team, provincial association, and country. Every contribution, regardless of size, will play a vital role in supporting her journey. Symons also acknowledges that any extra funds raised will benefit her teammates and make the overall trip easier for everyone involved.

Symons has also made a call to get her team to go to the World Cup, saying: “Majority of us ladies are university students and are working to make money for this tour. I see how hard we all work to put in the effort to come to trainings, stay conditioned and still do well. For us to come this far and lose the opportunity to represent our country in a sport that we love due to money would be so unfortunate.”
