Nigerian powerlifting champion Bose Omolayo claimed the victory at the World Para Powerlifting Championship in style, breaking the world record in the women’s 79 kilograms category in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi.

The double Paralympic gold medallist started the competition on the front foot and maintained her performance to claim a hard-earned gold medal. 

On her first attempt, she lifted 134 kilograms before she took up 139 kg in her second attempt whilst 142 kg was her final lift.

She then went on to lift an amazing 144kg in the power lift, dethroning defending champion Han Miaoyu of China to set a new world record.

Russian Vera Muratova won the silver medal whilst Han Miaoyu had to be content with a bronze medal, after managing to lift just 131 kg.
