A women’s tournament being added to the HSBC Cape Town Sevens for the first time meant that the Springbok Women’s Sevens team (Imbokodo) had the opportunity to introduce themselves to South Africa and the world.

A fighting spirit is what defines Imbokodo. With minimal international fixtures, they finished in tenth place making South Africa proud of their progress.

In February 2020 the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series – a new sevens competition – will be launched. This will boost play and encourage Imbokodo further. The women’s Sevens Challenger Series looks to develop the next generation of rugby players.

The Springbok Women’s Sevens team have shown their appetite for more play, being more competitive than ever. This is a great opportunity for the side to develop and improve their competitiveness ahead of the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 in South Africa.
