We are excited to introduce our eighth monthly newsmakers intake ahead of our fifth #GAL2023 event in December, powered by the Momentum gsport Newsroom in partnership with Telkom.
During the month of July, South African women in sport proudly flew the flag high across the globe at various competitions.
At the 2023 English Girls Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship, Gia Raad bagged top honours after finishing the 72 hole event with a total gross of 276 with a total to par gross of -12. She had four impressive rounds of 71, 66, 71 and 68. This allowed her to seal a five shot victory over Lili-Rose Hunt of England with a total gross of 281 and a total to par gross of -7.
While, over in France at the World Para Athletics Championships, Louzanne Coetzee set the tone for Team South Africa as she grabbed their first medal of the tournament, earning silver in the 1,500m T11 event.

And, in the pool, swim sensation Tatjana Schoenmaker became the first South African woman in history to win a world title after scooping gold in the women’s 200m breaststroke event at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
There were also outstanding performances from Simoné Kruger as she set a new F38 Discus World Record.

The gsport Annual List (#GAL) was launched in 2019 to show how far women’s sport has come. It is South Africa’s only Newsmakers event that is dedicated to women’s sport.
