The 22-year-old claimed her podium finish beating her Cameroonian opponent Marie Baba Matia by submission.
Griesel had previously won a bronze medal in the 52kg event at the recent 2022 African Senior Judo Champions in Algeria, prior to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

This hard fought win for Griesel sees Team South Africa add another medal to their tally after Michaela Whitebooi won the Judo 48kg earlier in the day.
