After announcing the incentives, SASCOC CEO Ms Nozipho Jafta said: “We are proud of our athletes’ achievements at the Commonwealth Games and the incentive is a small reward to say thank you for representing our nation well.
“We are aware of the hard work our athletes and coaches put into competing at the event and they deserve a token of appreciation. Winning a medal is a huge achievement and something to cherish for life.”
SASCOC President Barry Hendricks added: “We are aware that payment of the incentives to our athletes has taken a bit longer than expected, but all the same we are pleased to reward our athletes and their coaches for their hard work and excellence at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
“We would like to thank the National Lotteries Commission and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture for funding this initiative.”
