Entries for the 2013 Comrades Marathon officially closed at 11am on Friday, 30 November 2012 when the cap of 18 000 (entries received) was reached. However runners were given until close of business to ensure entries were submitted.
An excited CMA Race Director, Johan Van Staden, lauded South African athletes for their unwavering commitment to the world’s oldest ultra-marathon, “The enthusiasm and desire to run the Comrades Marathon has reached record levels, not only in South Africa, but across the globe. However, it is mainly thanks to the South African runner that we have managed to maintain our position as world leaders in road running”.
Van Staden further urged runners to submit their qualifying details to the CMA office as soon as they’ve completed their qualifying race and registered with a club.
The 2013 Comrades Marathon (2 June) is an Up-Run (Durban to Pietermaritzburg) and will be the 88th time the race is staged since Vic Clapham organized the first Comrades Marathon in 1921.
