There is no stopping inspirational national para-cycling champion Palesa “Deejay” Maneleng. The 2018 gsport Ministerial Recognition of Excellence winner obtained a Diploma in Public Relations and Communication at the University of Johannesburg, adding to her growing list of achievements.
Manaleng’s determination and drive for life inspired her to go back to school after 10 years, proving that it is never too late pursue what you want.
The 2019 Mail and Guardian Young South African gives says it would not have been possible without a solid support system.
In a social post, she gushes: “Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. I went back to school after 10 years thanks to @uj_sport and I will forever be grateful. It took an entire team from my friends, lectures, the sports department, colleagues, the maintenance department. When others pulled, some pushed and I gave most grey hairs but we did it. A special thanks to Mr Twice – those who know, know.”
She has represented South Africa in two Para-cycling World Cups in 2015 and 2016, and competed in six national championships.
One of Manaleng’s great passions is to using her platform to raise funds and awareness for the needs of people with disabilities.
In May 2018, the tenacious athlete cycled 2200km from Pretoria to Cape Town to raise awareness about disability and raise funds for differently abled children. In the same year, she was elevated on the Momentum gsport Awards stage, and she continues to own her success.
