Desiree Ellis Retains CAF Women’s Coach of the Year Award

by | Jan 8, 2020

Banyana Banyana head coach, Desiree Ellis, was named the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year for a consecutive year at the CAF Awards on Tuesday, 7 January 2020, in Hurghada, Egypt.

Ellis’ nomination was one of four that came South Africa’s way on the night. Striker Thembi Kgatlana was nominated for African Women’s Player of the Year, Amanda Mthandi in the Goal of the Year category and South Africa featured for the Team of the Year.

Upon receiving her award from South African Football Association President, Mr Danny Jordaan, Ellis was ecstatic about her achievement having been the only South African to win an award on the evening.

“God is good! This is for all the coaches that coach women’s football. But most importantly, this is for Banyana Banyana,” Ellis said in her acceptance speech.

Social media went abuzz as congratulatory messages made waves.
