Dubai Ladies Masters Day 1

by | Oct 26, 2006

Swede Annika Sorenstam was the inaugural Dubai Ladies Masters Day 1 star when she ended day 1 with a top-drawer seven-under par 65 at the top of the leader board with a two-shot lead over Namika Omata from Japan.

Fondly referred to by the television commentary team as one of the ‘elder stateswomen’ on tour, South African Laurette Maritz showed her talent to finish best for the local girls with a strong three under-par 69.

Local amateur Ashleigh Simon, who joined the tour straight after her effort in winning the Espirito Santo Trophy for South Africa in Stellenbosch last week, could only manage a 3-over par 75 in the desert heat.

Sandra Meyer struggled throughout the day, her single birdie on the seventh hole largely shadowed by 9 bogies and 2 doubles.
