Jasmin Hutton was crowned Champion after going head-to-head with compatriot Lucy Turmel in an all-English final of the SA Squash Open Championship, at the Wanderers Club in Johannesburg on 2 November 2023.

Having played against each other since the age of 11, Hutton and Turmel gave nothing away as they went toe-to-toe. Hutton went into over-drive after she hit a winning shot from back of the court that propelled her to win four points on the trot.

Turmel dug deep in her fight back, winning the opening point in game two to set the tone and give her an early advantage. Hutton was not giving up without a battle and managed to turn the tide in her favour.

Playing with determination and spring in her step, Hutton closed out the game for a final score of 11-6, 13-11, 11-5; and with it her seventh PSA title at the 2023 SA Women’s Squash Open.

Addressing the media after the final, Hutton spoke about her relationship with Turmel, “Lucy and I go way back. She was my first finalist when I was 11-years-old. She is a great friend, but I am happy to win today.”

“This event has been really cool and I have had such a good time. I am really hoping that it can grow and show squash in South Africa to be even larger that it is today.
