Femke Bol and Devynne Charlton smashed World Records just two weeks after having set the milestone in their respective disciplines, at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, from 1-3 March, 2024.

The 24-year-old Dutch track sensation Bol, ran away from the pack on the home straight after leading for the majority of the race, to finish in a new record time of 49.17 seconds, shattering her own record set just two weeks ago at the Dutch national championships, where she broke a record set by Russia’s Oleysa Krasnomovets-Forsheva in 2006.

Speaking to the media after the race, Bol mentioned that her coaches knew she could run an amazing race, even though she just wanted the gold.

“It is amazing to run a world record again. I knew I needed a really good race to win gold. I had to open fast and once you open fast, you have to keep going.”

Bol stormed over the line a mere second ahead of fellow teammate, Lieke Klaver, who claimed silver, and Alexis Holmes of the USA for a PB in third.

Femke went on to the anchor the Dutch female 4x400m relay team to a gold medal finish on Sunday.

Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas set a new 60m Hurdles world record when she crossed the finished line in a time of 7.65 seconds, shaving 0.02 seconds off the record she set on 11 February in New York. Cyrena Samba-Mayela claimed silver and Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska took bronze.

Charlton said she didn’t change her technique much, tweaking it here and there.

“This means a whole lot because I have set myself goals. I have been working hard off the track making sure my mental health is good and working with a sports psychologist. Just taking care of myself. Indoors really plays well to my skillset too.”
