The FNB Run Your City Series has achieved an incredible feat with its three iconic road races (in three major cities) receiving World Athletics Label-statuses in 2020. The FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN and FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN received Silver-status, while the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN was awarded Bronze-status.
World Athletics Label Road Races are races that the World Athletics designates as one of the “leading road races around the world.”
“We are proud to be awarded this fantastic accolade for all three FNB Run Your City Series races,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports.
“All three events have pushed the boundaries in the sport of road running since the inception of the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN in 2015, followed by the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN in 2016 and the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN in 2017. Each event encourages mass participation while also featuring an Elite Race element.
“Runners of all ages (male and female) and walks of life are invited to celebrate the magnificent city in which each event is hosted. Each route highlights iconic landmarks and magnificent views while featuring lively performances by leading performing arts groups.”
“Stringent criteria had to be adhered to in order to receive the coveted Label-status,” continues Meyer.
“The benefits are far-reaching and include greater recognition both for local and international athletes, international media coverage as the results are shared with World Athletics’ Network and greater international exposure for both the race and the host city.
“Each race will also enjoy the highest standard of organisation and will be held on the best available, fast courses. Receiving the Label-status means so much more to us as a team as it proves that hard work does pay off. We are proud and motivated more than ever to host three memorable mass participation road races in 2020.”
Bonga Sebesho, Head of FNB Sponsorships, “We are truly honoured to receive the recognition from World Athletics. Not only does the FNB Run Your City Series demonstrate our commitment to delivering the best family and wellness event in South Africa and Africa; but also, it’s now amongst the best races in the World. This alone is a major feat for FNB as well as the event organisers Stillwater Sports, its employees and customers.”
