To close off Africa Month, Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis launched her book titled, “Magic: DESIREE ELLIS – From Salt River to the 2023 World Cup” in Sandton, Johannesburg on Tuesday, 30 May.
The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champion winning coach, who hails from Salt River in the Western Cape, shares her inspiring story which has seen her dominate football on the continent since her playing days in the 1980s and ‘90s.
In the book, we learn of a young Ellis who enjoyed street football, wasn’t one to play with dolls and would never be caught wearing a dress. Instead, she enjoyed life outside, rather than being indoors.
Ellis’ story is one of determination, which has seen her rise to incredible heights in her career.
Today, she known worldwide for her outstanding achievements in sport, which include the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year Award, Momentum gsport Awards Coach of the Year, as well as her National Order of Ikhamanga Orders bestowed on her by the South African government.
