The gsport initiative is proud to announce former Indian cricketer turned writer, Ananya Upendran, as our first-ever #gsportGlobal correspondent as we amplify coverage of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand.

In September 2019, gsport Founder, Kass Naidoo flew out to India as South Africa’s only media entity to cover the Momentum Proteas tour to Surat and Baroda.

#gsportGlobal: From Surat to South Africa

Since our bold move almost three years ago, it is a pleasure to welcome Upendran to the team as gsport sets out to make headway on the international stage.

Speaking on her appointment, an excited Upendran says: “It’s a huge honour to, first of all, be able to contribute to a wonderful organisation like gsport – a platform that has been a true champion of women’s sport for many years now.

“I’ve admired Kass and all the work she’s done around the world for a very long time, and see her as a real inspiration. So all things considered, it is a massive opportunity and an even bigger privilege to be the first #gsportGlobal correspondent,” she added.

Upendran will be playing a key role for the Momentum-powered gsport Newsroom as she will be producing exclusive and insightful content on the South African team.

“I hope to bring a global perspective on the South African team and its players – not only celebrating the superstars in their ranks, but also throwing some light on the lesser known players who are equally important to the team’s success,” revealed Upendran.

“I also hope my involvement in your coverage helps gsport reach a wider audience, and I’m also keen to learn from a very driven and exceptional team! This is such an exciting time for women’s sport in general, and women’s cricket in particular, and I can’t wait to get things underway!” she concluded.
