Telkom’s Chief Marketing Officer, Gugu Mthembu, reveals the telecommunications giant’s commitment to drive the development of netball, after the announcement of a further 3-year partnership.
On Wednesday, 12 April 2023, Netball South Africa and Telkom held a media briefing in Sandton, Johannesburg, to announce the partnership extension, as well as unveil two new teams for the Telkom Netball League.
Speaking on their support of netball, Mthembu said: “For us as a brand it goes back to our core purpose. Our core purpose is to make sure that every South African and in this instance being netball, every girl, every young girl has a bright future.
“So, in everything that we do, transformation and progress are kind of our guiding light, so everything that we touch we want to see progress. We want to see lives changed and I think we can attest to it with the teams continuing to grow year on year.”
Mthembu added: “Through TNL, we want to continue showcasing the best netball talent in the country, whilst growing the sport and encouraging South African youth to stand tall through life’s adversities. TNL will provide a platform for all the players and coaches to raise their hands for a chance to make the final Proteas squad for Africa’s first Netball World Cup.”
This year, 15 teams will compete at TNL, with the opening week set to start from 27 April at the Ngoako Ramahlodi Sports Complex in Seshego, Polokwane before heading to Pretoria in May.
Telkom have also thrown their weight behind the Netball World Cup and are one of the premium sponsors of this global showpiece that will take place in July in Cape Town.
