California’s Janelle Hamilton continues to prove that females are also capable of successfully competing in Sumo Wrestling as she brings awareness to the women’s side of the sport.
Sumo Wrestling is historically an all-male sport, but more female competitors are beginning to compete internationally.
“Anyone can beat anyone. That’s the great thing about this sport,” she explains to 6abc.com
“It’s all about agility, learning balance, learning how to throw someone off in the techniques. You always have the opportunity to win, no matter what your size, which is the great thing about it.”
Hamilton’s aim is to continue bringing awareness of the sport to the female population.
“We’re bringing awareness to the sport and you can’t have that unless you’re willing to be outside of Japan, expand the sport of sumo, come together for sport, and be open-minded to what everyone has to offer,” she concluded.
