Agnes Ngetich, representing Kenya, achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new women-only world record for the 10km distance, completing the Transylvania 10km race in a stunning time of 29 minutes and 24 seconds during the World Athletics Elite Label road race, which took place on Sunday as part of the Brasov Running Festival in Romania.

In a remarkable demonstration of solo running prowess, the 22-year-old athlete displayed her determination right from the beginning, completing the initial 5km in just 14 minutes and 25 seconds, a four-second improvement over the existing women-only world record for that distance.

Continuing on the loop course, Ngetich reached the 6.5km mark in 18 minutes and 54 seconds and the 8.5km mark in 24 minutes and 56 seconds.

She ultimately crossed the finish line in an impressive 29 minutes and 24 seconds, setting a new women-only 10km record. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 30 minutes and 1 second, held by the late Agnes Tirop, established in Herzogenaurach in 2021.

Notably, Ngetich’s time ranks as the third-fastest in history among women, trailing only Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw’s 29:14 in a mixed race in Castellon last year and Yehualaw’s 29:19 in Valencia earlier this year.
