Khulani Beach Soccer Festival

Human Rights Day – Wednesday 21st March – Sunrise Beach Muizenberg will be the venue for the 3rd annual Khulani Beach Soccer Festival sponsored by JAG Sports and Education Foundation, where Sporting Chance will facilitate 400 participants from Cape Town communities enjoying the beautiful game.

Khulani (the Xhosa word meaning ‘to grow and prosper’) will have children between the ages of 10 and 12 transported to the beach – given a nutritious breakfast snack, then heading onto the beach to divide into teams of 10 according to age, each team is assigned a coach and sent out to play on the demarcated pitches along the beach.

AJAX Cape Town talent scouts, together with a few of their Professional players will be on the beach, to assist with tips on play, as well as take names of those children who show a natural flair for the game, to draft them into club teams, and develop their talent.

Once the day’s play is over – the children will gather for a final vibe session where they will be given a talk on safety and security, as well as HIV/AIDS information, as they depart they will be given lunch and a goodie bag – taking home with them memories of sand sliding tackles, striking goals, and loads of fun in the warm South African sun!

With the 16 years of Calypso Beach Cricket Festival’s experience, Brad Bing and his team of coaches from Sporting Chance strive to bring the joy of sport as an alternative to getting involved in gangs, drugs and petty crime to the youth of South Africa, and the success of Khulani Beach Soccer is leading towards this festival being expanded to include other national regions.
