DP World Lions Women, Recon Tactical Free State Women and Glencore Dragons Women, all secured wins in the CSA Women’s Professional Domestic One Day Cup League on Saturday, 9 March, 2024.
In division one, DP World Lions Women hosted Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. A scorcher of a day greeted the teams as the Lions won the toss and decided to have a bowl first.
Badgers struggled against a clinical bowling attack from the Lions. The top order toppled like a game of dominoes. Tabitha la Grange (16), Asakhe Nyovane (21), Haroline Rhodes (16), Koketso Manyaga (18) and Michaela Andrews (12), all added hard fought contributions with an unbeaten effort from Khayakazi Mathe (13*) as they were bowled out for 121 in the 38th over.
Ayabonga Khaka brought her lioness temperament with bowling figures of 3/10 and was also involved in a run-out. Kgomotso Rapoo contributed with 2/24, whilst Kirstie Thompson, Lehlohonolo Meso and Tumi Sekhukune took 1 wicket each.
In the run chase, Lions opener Nonkululeko Thabethe (33), set up the team nicely, as Sunette Viljoen-Louw (46*) and Kirstie Thompson (24*), reached the target of 123/2 in the 28th over, awarding the Lions Women a victory by 8 wickets.
At SuperSport Park in Centurion, Fidelity Titans Women hosted Recon Tactical Free State Women and after winning the toss, they too chose to have a bowl first. Mignon van de Merwe scored a sensational (118), with Gezelle Janse van Rensburg (60) contributing with half century as Free State posted a total of 278/8 in their allotted 50 overs.
Kay-Leigh Tapp, Eliz-Mari Marx and Masabata Klaas all took 2 wickets each as they restricted their visitors. In a dramatic turn of events due to highveld storms, Recon Tactical Free State claimed a 9 run victory over the Titans Ladies based on DLS.
In the only match in division two, Mpumalanga Rhinos Women hosted the Glencore Dragons Women at Uplands College in White River. Glencore Dragons women beat Mpumalanga Rhinos by 149 runs. Katlego Setlhodi took 5/14, to claim victory over their hosts.
