Hollywoodbets Dolphins Women claimed an emphatic 10-wicket victory over the DP World Lions Women, whilst Western Province completed the weekend double when they beat Recon Tactical Free State by 4 wickets, as CSA Women’s T20 Challenge continued Sunday 18 February.
With an overcast day meeting both teams at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium, both the Dolphins and Lions Women’s teams were eager to get onto the field and enjoy the challenge that awaited them.
Nondumiso Shangase, captain of the coastal side, elected to field first after winning the toss. It proved to work in the hosts’ favour, as the Hollywoodbets Dolphins bowling unit proved destructive when they ripped through the Lions batting order. Kgomotso Rapoo (18) was the only batter to have reached double figures, as the visitors posted 69/9 in their allotted 20-overs.
Jade de Figueiredo (3/8), Seshnie Naidu (3/18) and Kiara Fisher (2/3) were the most destructive bowling unit on the day as they restricted their visitors to a total that stunned them all.
Opening batters for the Dolphins team, Alexandra Naidu (17*) and Nicole de Klerk (41*) chased down the total at ease to secure a mammoth victory for the hosts.

In Bloemfontein, Recon Tactical Free State captain Yolandi Potgieter decided to have a bat first after winning the toss. Potgieter (37), Miane Smit (30) and Verunissa Reddy (37*), helped the hosts to 134/3 in their 20-overs. Leah Jones (2/20) was the most economical bowler for Western Province.
Faye Tunnicliffe (70) played a wonderful innings but the Free State bowling department did not make it easy for the visitors. As much as Yolandi Potgieter (2/19), Gezelle Janse van Rensburg (2/22) and Miane Smit (2/21) put up a spirited fight, it was not enough as Western Province reached 138/6 in the eighteenth over to earn them a victory by 4 wickets, and the weekend double over Free State.
