Sensational bowling from youngster Ayanda Hlubi sealed an impressive Hollywoodbets Dolphins T20 match win for the weekend double over Recon Tactical Free State, at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead on Sunday, 19 November, 2023.
Having to bat first, Dolphins posted a total of 123/8 in their innings. Zintle Mali scoring a quick 24 (18) hitting four fours, with solid contributions from Nobuhle Busani 15 (20) and an unbeaten 15* (13) with three fours and 10* (12) with two fours from Jade de Figueiredo and Chene Arnolds respectively.
Christen van Wyk was the pick of the bowlers for Free State with 3/17.
In response Free State put up a brave fight but with Ayanda Hlubi spearheading the Dolphins bowling attack with impressive figures of 3/14, the visitors were restricted to 107/5 in their allotted overs.
Gezelle Janse van Rensburg scored an unbeaten 37* (29) smashing four fours and one maximum for Free State, but it was not enough as Dolphins claimed a 16-run victory to add to their 50-over match the day prior.
Titans Host the Lions
At TUT Oval, Fidelity Titans also claimed the weekend double when they emerged victorious over the DP World Lions, in the second match of the day in Division One.
Sunette Viljoen-Louw scored a rapid 62 (54) hitting nine fours and one six for an unbeaten 46* (39), and with six fours from Raisibe Ntozakhe as the Lions posted a competitive score of 132/5 in their allotted overs.
Masabata Klaas and Paulinah Mashishi took two wickets each as Titans restricted their rivals.
In a nail-biting run-chase, Titans put their game plan in motion with the top-order consisting of Robyn Searle 27 (24), Anneke Bosch 22 (19) Suné Luus 39 (26) setting up the score board for a dramatic last ball finish. Klaas delivered a boundary off the last ball to secure a 6-wicket victory for the #DaisyLadies, as they finished off on133/4.
Sarah Nettleton took 2/24 for the Lions.
Province host the Badgers
Down in Newlands for the final Division One match of the day, Western Province secured a 7-wicket win against rivals Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers.
Batting first, Badgers captain Tazmin Britz put in a solid performance of 41 (30), supported with an unbeaten cameo from Haroline Rhodes 30* (22) as the visitors posted 153/6 in their innings. Nosipho Vezi claimed 2/32 for the WP bowling unit.
Western Province opening batters responded with Faye Tunnicliffe 40 (20) hitting eight fours, Jemma Botha 44 (22) with seven fours and one maximum, and Nadine de Klerk 31 (20) with three fours and two sixes to get the run chase going in fine style. An unbeaten 30* (24) from Babette de Leede saw the home side comfortably home in the 15 over.
Division 2’s Eastern Storm Away to KZN Inland
Eastern Storm got the better of KZN Inland in Pietermaritzburg in the only visitor’s win of the day, securing a 65-run victory over their hosts in Division Two.
Eastern Storm were put in to bat after losing the toss. Alysia Rudolph scored 29 (21) with Tamzyn Hartman falling 5 runs short of a half century as her innings ended on 45 (55). Thelma Makhubela scored 34 (32) before she was run out, as Eastern Storm posted 131/4 in their allotted overs.
Megan Wessells put up an unbeaten fight 33* (57) for Inland but it was a tough ask as wickets tumbled all around her, and they amassed only 66/7 in their innings.
Simone Botha was the destructive bowler for Storm with figures of 3/9 and Micaela Edwards 2/8 as they restricted their rivals on the day.
